Recently, I read an article by Julianna Summers titled, Old Fashioned Habits We Need to Bring Back. The article is Here. The article discusses the benefits of reviving old-fashioned habits in order to live a more frugal lifestyle. It highlights several habits from the past that can help people save money and reduce waste, such…

In a small apartment, there is often no extra room to spread out and work on a project. It can be difficult to find a spot to lay out all of your tools and materials, let alone a comfortable place to sit or stand while you work. Another challenge is the lack of ventilation. Small…

As concerns about the environment continue to grow, more and more people are looking for ways to reduce their impact on the planet. Two popular methods for doing so are composting and recycling plastics. But which one is better for the environment? In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at the benefits of each and compare them to determine which one is more environmentally friendly. Composting Composting is the process of breaking down organic waste, such as food scraps and yard waste, into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. This process can be done at home using a compost bin, or it can be done on a larger scale by municipalities. One of the biggest benefits of composting is that it helps reduce the amount of organic waste that ends up in landfills. When organic waste is buried in a landfill, it produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Composting also helps improve soil health, which can lead to better crop yields and reduced erosion. Recycling Plastics Recycling plastics is the process of converting plastic waste into new products. This process can be done at home, but it is more commonly done by municipalities that collect plastic waste from households and businesses. The benefits of recycling plastics are numerous. First and foremost, it reduces the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills, reducing the amount of space needed for landfills and the associated environmental impact. Recycling also reduces the need to extract and manufacture new plastic, which can save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Comparing the Two Both composting and recycling plastics have clear environmental benefits, but which one is better? The answer, unfortunately, is not straightforward. It depends on a variety of factors, including the type of plastic being recycled, the method of composting used, and the location in which these processes are taking place. In general, however, composting organic waste is likely to have a greater overall environmental benefit than recycling plastics. This is because organic waste produces methane when it decomposes in landfills, which is a potent greenhouse gas. By composting organic waste, we can reduce the amount of methane produced and instead create a valuable soil amendment that can help reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers. That being said, recycling plastics is still an important way to reduce our impact on the environment. Plastic waste is a major problem, and by recycling it we can help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills and the ocean. Additionally, recycling can help reduce the need for new plastic production, which is an energy-intensive process that contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Conclusion Both composting and recycling plastics have clear environmental benefits, and both should be encouraged as part of a comprehensive environmental strategy. However, if we had to choose one over the other, composting organic waste is likely to have a greater overall environmental benefit. That being said, we should continue to recycle plastics and look for ways to reduce our overall plastic consumption, as plastic waste remains a major environmental issue that requires urgent attention.
